Resolved Question: hired neighbor to cut our grass has not done a decent job…am i being unfair?
I have a neighbor who is in need of some extra money. My husband and I purchased our home last fall so we did not have a mower/weed wacker etc. The neighbor has a riding tractor and everything so I had asked him if he would mind doing our yard and we would pay him $60/ month to weed wack and mow. (it is a fairly small yard) and he would only have to do it once every 7-10 days. He accepted. I had a contract drawn up and went to him to have it signed. When I got there he was all the happy to sign it but he wanted more money. He stated that he needed at least $20 more just to cover the gas in the weed wacker. I told him then to forget the weed wacking (i assumed I had misunderstood our previous discussion about prices. Now when he is mowing he is not doing all of our yard. even the yard that he is doing he is not doing very well. I am very upset. I plan to just buy my own and do it myself. My question is am i being unfair to him? Our lot is 150×150. Our home is a little over 3,300 sq. ft. we have a 3 stall garage with a small storage area that would equal probably a 4th stall. We have a driveway plus a parking area on the side so there is not a whole lot left of the yard.
